We have lived in Mooresville since 2015, and the town has grown significantly. We have experienced many fun things here, and it continues to expand. We wanted to include a great list of options you can choose from while visiting.

Mooresville is a mid-sized town in Iredell County, just 30 minutes north of Charlotte, NC. Nicknamed “Race City USA,” Mooresville is home to several racing teams, various auto racing businesses, and the NASCAR Technical Institute, an auto racing-oriented vocational school.

Standing true to the nickname, Mooresville is a fast-paced little town that serves as North Carolina’s largest racing hub. Visitors come from near and far to see racing museums and tour racing facilities and enjoy some racing themselves. However, racing isn’t the only thing Mooresville has to offer. 

As the town expands, dozens of unique shops, delicious restaurants, cute craft stores, and outdoor activities have sprung up, making Mooresville quite an exciting place. You’d be surprised at everything Mooresville has to offer. Let’s dive into the things to do in Mooresville.

1. Enjoy Lake Norman  

The lovely Lake Norman is the largest manmade lake in North Carolina and has over 500 miles of shoreline. It is a fully recreational lake, meaning anyone can enjoy a number of lake activities, including swimming, boating, paddling, fishing, and more. Boat rentals can be found at various locations around the lake.

2. Carrigan Farms

Address: 1261 Oakridge Farm Hwy, Mooresville, NC 28115

Carrigan Farms is a family-owned and operated farm specializing in quality fruits and vegetables. They have U-Pick strawberry fields, educational tours, and lots more. 

You can also check out the Carrigan Farms Quarry, which is a popular spot for swimming, cliff jumping, and diving. The quarry is open to the public for swimming during the summer months, typically from Memorial Day to Labor Day. The water in the quarry is crystal clear and has a striking blue-green color, which is a result of the minerals in the granite.

3. The Pit Indoor Kart Racing

Fearless Adventure Park is a high-energy trampoline park for kids of all ages. Attractions include a Ninja obstacle course, a dodgeball area, a trapeze, a toddler play zone, an indoor zip line, and so much more. One of its most prominent features is a state-of-the-art virtual reality immersion experience called The Omni.

5. NC Auto Racing Hall of Fame

NCARHOF is a museum focusing on a wide range of auto racing, including stock cars and drag racing. The facility honors some of the most significant influences in national motorsports through its inductees, while its exhibits guide visitors through the fascinating history and evolution of racing in North Carolina. The museum is home to over 40 cars that replicate some of the most memorable moments in auto racing.

6. Cliff Hangers

Cliff Hangers is a cutting-edge indoor climbing facility that allows visitors to push themselves to new heights while enjoying a sense of community and support along the way.

You’ll love this state-of-the-art indoor rock climbing gym if you are a rock climbing fan. They have bouldering walls, 50-foot top rope climbing walls, crack climbing, and kids’ sections.

The facility features a wide range of activities, including speed climbing, introductory classes, a yoga studio, a fitness area, a café, and a dedicated kid’s climbing area, catering to a diverse audience.

7. Memory Lane Museum

The glam of new-age racing is exciting, but it is important to remember where the racing world all started. Memory Lane Museum is an antique car museum showing over 150 classic racing vehicles, memorabilia, and more. 

This unique museum features over 100 vehicles on display and is a fabulous collection of automobiles and related items. It was honored as the “Best of 2003” by the Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) for “outstanding achievement in the preservation of automotive history.” 

The museum showcases the history of the automobile from 1901 to the present and the history of racing from the early moonshine era to the super speedways of today. The collection includes over 15 different types of race cars on display, from Soap derby’s and drag cars to Winston Cup Stock and NASCAR cars. 

Memory Lane Museum

In addition to cars, the museum boasts a large collection of pedal cars, antique toys, motorcycles, tractors, antique clothing, memorabilia, trophies, and so much more! 

Visitors can view cars once driven by NASCAR stars, past and present, including Bobby Allison, Richard Petty, Terry Labonte, Dale Earnhardt, Rusty Wallace, Jeff Gordon, and many more! The museum has the largest private collection of retired NASCAR and vintage race cars on display in existence, according to Donald Farr, editor of Super Ford Magazine. 

The cars and props were used in movies and commercials such as Days of Thunder, The Color Purple, Leatherheads, Talladega Nights, and many more.

8. Mazeppa Park

Covering an area of 163 acres, this park is the largest in the Mooresville system.

Situated next to the Trackhouse Motorplex, approximately five miles from downtown, the park offers a range of features that attract visitors from the region, particularly for athletic tournaments and over 6 miles of mountain bike trails.

9. Josh’s Farmers Market

10. Victory Lanes Bowling

11. Liberty Park

Liberty Park has recently gone through redevelopment. It is a hub for popular events in the downtown area and is a gem in the Mooresville Park system.

Located in the heart of the city with direct access to downtown, this 5.5-acre urban park is adjacent to the War Memorial Recreation Center and just a block from The Charles Mack Citizen Center.

What’s more, the balconies from Mill One offer a stunning bird’s eye view of the park, making it the perfect spot to take in summer concerts and events. This renovated park has an interactive water play area, an adventure playground, walking paths, and a covered basketball court.

12. Willow Valley Park

Willow Valley Park is a four-acre neighborhood park just one mile from downtown Mooresville. They have picnic shelters, grills, playgrounds, walking paths, green lawns, and a basketball court.

13. Hope Park

Hope Park is a highly sought-after destination within Mooresville’s Park system. Situated on the YMCA grounds, the park boasts a massive, community-built playground that offers endless possibilities for playtime. 

Additionally, visitors can cool off from Memorial Day to Labor Day and have a blast at the splash pad, which features twirling flowers, fountains, spray jets, and other fun water features. With such wonderful features, it’s no surprise that the park is a beloved spot for both old and new friends to gather and enjoy.

Lazy 5 Ranch is one of the more popular attractions in Mooresville. They have a large variety of exotic animals from six continents, wagon rides, a petting zoo, and special events.

The Mooresville Museum is a non-profit organization that plays a crucial role as the primary resource for illuminating the region’s past, interpreting the present, and envisioning the future. In addition, the museum provides educational programming to promote an appreciation and understanding of the region’s history. The museum also encourages active participation from the community to ensure that the museum remains a vital resource for future generations.

16. Stumpy Creek Park

Stumpy Creek Park is a large 83-acre park with lots of walking/jogging paths, a wonderful disc golf course, three baseball diamonds, several sports fields, picnic shelters (available for rent), and boat launch access to Lake Norman. 

17. Days of Thunder Barn

Address: 108 Morrison Plantation Pkwy, Mooresville, NC 28117

You may recall the 90s racing movie “Days of Thunder” and perhaps the old barn that served as a race shop that was featured in that movie. The barn truly exists right in Mooresville, and it is a lovely experience to visit the barn and snap a few pictures. 

The property is now primarily used for seasonal sales of Christmas trees, flowers, pumpkins, and more.

18. Cornelius Park

Cornelius Park is a favored park for dog owners because of its K-9 agility course and the 2.2-acre dog park with water stations, seating, and plenty of room for dogs to run.

Cornelius Park also features four baseball diamonds, numerous other sports fields, a half dozen tennis courts, a disc golf course, playgrounds, a paved walking trail, a pavilion with picnic tables, and more.

23. Bellingham Park

Bellingham Park can be found on the south side of Mooresville and is a favored park by locals. They have wonderful park activities, including a playground, fitness stations, walking paths, ball fields, and more.

24. Edgemoor Park

Address: 630 Ridgecrest Drive, Mooresville, NC 28115

Residential neighborhoods surround the five-acre park situated on the south end of town. After undergoing a significant renovation, it re-opened in 2017 and became a community tennis hub. The Mooresville Graded School District contributed to the park’s financial renovation and currently operates its high school tennis program as a park partner.

25. Lake Norman State Park

Many visitors find themselves in Mooresville because of Lake Norman State Park. The park includes the beloved Lake Norman and all its activities, plus 38 miles of hiking trails, 30 miles of biking trails, camping, cabin rentals, picnic areas, and more. Lake Norman State Park is also the location of one of the only two public beaches on Lake Norman.
