Mooresville is a mid-sized town in Iredell County, just 30 minutes north of Charlotte, NC. Nicknamed “Race City USA,” Mooresville is home to several racing teams, various auto racing businesses, and the NASCAR Technical Institute, an auto racing-oriented vocational school.
Standing true to the nickname, Mooresville is a fast-paced little town that serves as North Carolina’s largest racing hub. Visitors come from near and far to see racing museums and tour racing facilities and enjoy some racing themselves. However, racing isn’t the only thing Mooresville has to offer.

7. Memory Lane Museum

The glam of new-age racing is exciting, but it is important to remember where the racing world all started. Memory Lane Museum is an antique car museum showing over 150 classic racing vehicles, memorabilia, and more.
This unique museum features over 100 vehicles on display and is a fabulous collection of automobiles and related items. It was honored as the “Best of 2003” by the Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) for “outstanding achievement in the preservation of automotive history.”
The museum showcases the history of the automobile from 1901 to the present and the history of racing from the early moonshine era to the super speedways of today. The collection includes over 15 different types of race cars on display, from Soap derby’s and drag cars to Winston Cup Stock and NASCAR cars.
In addition to cars, the museum boasts a large collection of pedal cars, antique toys, motorcycles, tractors, antique clothing, memorabilia, trophies, and so much more!
Visitors can view cars once driven by NASCAR stars, past and present, including Bobby Allison, Richard Petty, Terry Labonte, Dale Earnhardt, Rusty Wallace, Jeff Gordon, and many more! The museum has the largest private collection of retired NASCAR and vintage race cars on display in existence, according to Donald Farr, editor of Super Ford Magazine.

Social District Downtown Mooresville
Mooresville’s Social District is available seven days a week, from noon until 10 pm. Folks (21+) are able to purchase alcoholic drinks from any bar or restaurant and walk around, hang out, and enjoy their beers anywhere they’d like inside the zone of the Social District.
To comply with regulations, it is necessary to acquire drinks from authorized establishments within the District in designated cups that bear distinct markings. Clear signage will demarcate the boundaries of the zone.

The headquarters of everything related to NASCAR’s late legend Dale Earnhardt. The showroom features a ton of photos, cars, trophies, and other memorabilia from the career of the fan favorite known as “the Intimidator.”
Unfortunately, DEI has not reopened to the public since COVID, but we hope it will happen soon so fans can visit the facility and retail store of this late racing icon.

Roger Penske is one of the most successful auto racing owners in the history of the sport. Their top-of-the-line facility in Mooresville houses both their NASCAR teams and their IndyCar Racing team. A 5,000-square-foot gift shop is located here, including a 432-foot fan walk above the garage floor, allowing guests to get views of their racing operations.

A family-owned and operated drag race track. The track is ⅛ mile long, and they hold many drag racing events.
🎯 Trackhouse Motorplex

Formerly known as GoPro Motorplex, Trackhouse is a hugely popular 11-turn karting race track. They have kart rentals, big races, and lots of fun!
Their 13-horsepower rental karts can go up to 55 mph; thus, there is a 16-year and up age policy. Visitors can also bring their own karts to race. Trackhouse Motorplex is generally regarded as one of the best karting experiences in the Charlotte area.

In both Spring and Fall, Downtown Mooresville becomes a hub of celebration with the Uncorked & Artsy event, where wine bottles and growlers are opened in abundance.
The occasion features wine and beer tastings within the local businesses, alongside an Art Walk where regional artists showcase and sell their creations along Broad & Main Streets. Additionally, live music, special store promotions, and light appetizers are available, both inside the businesses and on the sidewalks.
Tickets are priced at $25 per person, granting access to 16 tastings and a commemorative Downtown Uncorked & Artsy glass, with the number of tastings based on alcohol consumption rather than the number of participating venues.
While the art displays and live music performances are open for everyone to enjoy at no cost, a portion of the event’s proceeds is dedicated to supporting Mooresville Arts. The festivities take place from 6-9 pm, promising an enriching blend of culture, music, and gastronomy.
